I finally feel settled into life and love being in the Lehigh Valley. The yoga community we have at Easton Yoga is the best I’ve ever seen and I’m blessed to be part of it.
It took a long time to get here though, and I’m still learning. Without my yoga practice and my students to help me grow and learn, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Back in 1996 when I first began practicing yoga, it was hard to believe that I would ever be able to hold Downward Dog for more than a minute and the idea of sitting in meditation was so out of my scope of reality. At 22, I had too many other things to worry about.
In 2001, my teacher, a 30-year veteran of Kripalu Yoga, urged me to take the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. I forged forward through an intensive 10-month training which included yoga asanas, pranayama, mantra, sadhana, yoga nidra, yogic philosophy and history, pedagogy, practice teaching, anatomy, kinesiology, and meditation. The training included workshops with traditions of yoga ranging from Kripalu, Iyengar, Svaroopa and Kali Ray Tri Yoga.
So, here I am, all these years later, still learning and still growing. Teachers I’ve had the privilege to study under include: Stephen Cope, Shakta Kaur Khalsa, Sally Kempton, Natasha Rizopoulos, Kahuna Harry Uhane Jim, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
What’s next for me? I completed 120 hours of Kids’ Yoga Teacher Training through Little Flower Yoga in early 2012. I’m excited and blessed to be able to share yoga with children and adults! The journey continues! I am still touched every day to witness how yoga has changed the lives of so many people as it did for me.
