• Ashtanga: The practice of Ashtanga is a fast-paced series of sequential postures practiced by yoga master K. Pattabhi Jois, who lives in Mysore, India. The system is based on six series of asanas, which increase in difficulty, allowing students to work at their own pace. At Easton Yoga you’ll be led through the Primary Series. We work with Sun Salutations A&B, standing postures, seated postures and finishing postures. Variations for postures are also often taught, so that students can gradually cultivate correct alignment in order to safely practice more difficult postures. Be prepared to sweat!

• Anusara: Means "to step into the current of divine will."  It is a new system of hatha yoga that can be both spiritually inspiring and yet grounded in a deep knowledge of outer and inner body alignment. It can be therapeutically effective and physically transformative.  Each student's various abilities and limitations are respected and honored. Anusara Yoga differentiates itself from other Hatha yoga systems with three key areas of practice: Attitude. The practitioner balances an opening to grace with an aspiration for awakening to his or her true nature. Alignment. Each pose is performed with an integrated awareness of all the different parts of the body. Action.  For more information, visit www.anusara.com.

• DansKinetics:  NO YOGA OR DANCE EXPERIENCE NEEDED!!!  A dynamic experience of inner rhythm and expressive movement, Kripalu DansKinetics traces its roots to the free flow of yoga postures in Kripalu Yoga known as meditation-in-motion. Based on the chakras and the energy inherent in each, this training teaches you to open and flow with your innate joyfulness.

• Hatha Flow: Works to achieve balance between body and mind, as well as attempts to free the more subtle spiritual elements of the mind through physical poses or Asanas, Breathing Techniques or Pranayama, and Meditation. Practically all yoga forms (with exception of Kundalini and a few others) are some form of Hatha yoga.

• Hot Fudge Sundays!:  2 scoops Vigorous Vinyasa with 1 scoop of Restorative postures = a class that is the perfect topping for you weekend! Students should be familiar with sun salutations and basic yoga terminology. This class will be fun and energetic as well as have an extended restorative posture or two to complete class.

• Kripalu: Our Kripalu Classes are a great foundation for beginners. Kripalu yoga works towards a deep release of prana (life's energy force). They offer some mildly challenging asanas but with an emphasis on alignment and relaxation. For more information, visit www.kripalu.org.

• Kundalini: The philosophy of Kundalini Yoga is that it is everybody's birthright to be "healthy, happy and holy," and he believed Kundalini would help spiritual seekers from all religious paths tap into their greater potential. It is a complete science that combines postures (asanas), movement, sound current (mantra), breath (pranayama) and meditation into powerful sets called kriyas. Classes involve sometimes-seated gentle or more vigorous asanas done repetitively for extended periods of time. (See Workshops Schedule for Current Kundalini classes)

• Restorative: Teaches "active relaxation." By supporting the body with props, we alternately stimulate and relax the body to move toward balance. Some poses have an overall benefit. Others target an individual part, such as the lungs or heart. The asanas of Restorative Yoga create specific physiological responses, which are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress-related disease. In general, restorative poses are for those times when you feel weak, fatigued, or stressed from your daily activities.

• Svaroopa: This style of yoga teaches different ways of doing familiar poses, emphasizing the opening of the spine by beginning at the tailbone and progressing through each spinal area. Every pose integrates the foundational principles of asana, anatomy, and yoga philosophy, and emphasizes the development of transcendent inner experience, which is called svaroopa by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutra. This is a consciousness-oriented yoga that also promotes healing and transformation. New students find this a very approachable style, often beginning in chair poses that are comfortable and have a deep healing effect in the spine.

  1. Vinyasa:  Vinyasa yoga is a highly refined, energetic, flowing sequence of postures linked together with dynamic breathing. Expect to sweat while you build strength and flexibility. Open Vinyasa classes vary from day to day. Sometimes there are long holdings and sometimes the tempo moves quickly. Open Vinyasa yoga flows are designed to address the entire physical frame. Everything is there: forward folding, standing and balancing postures, upper body and abdominal work, lateral stretches, twists, backbends and inversions. Breath-synchronized movement.
